postheadericon Sen. Scott Brown starts leadership PAC

Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) established a political action committee (PAC) on Wednesday, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records.

Brown, the centrist Bay State senator who's slated for a tough reelection effort next fall, set up his "Spending Cuts Over Total Taxation" ("S.C.O.T.T.") PAC on Wednesday.

The filing comes on the first day of the third quarter of 2011's fundraising calendar. PACs are required to file disclosures of its fundraising and spending each quarter.

PACs are typically used by candidates to build support among political allies and help boost their own campaigns.

Brown's office said he set up this PAC to help other candidates win their races.

"Senator Brown gets a lot of requests for assistance from candidates, and this ! will allow him to be responsive to those requests," Brown adviser Eric Fehrnstrom said in an email. "Senator Kerry has a similar PAC, as did Senator Kennedy."

Brown has shown a fundraising prowess, and is on pace to raise millions to support his reelection campaign.
