Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) sided with the Saudi Arabian women who took to the streets on Friday.

Pelosi tweeted:

Beep beep and solidarity to the Saudi women & supporters challenging the driving ban! http://t.co/w31znJI #Women2Drive

A scattered group of Saudi women, who are legally forbidden to drive in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, defied the ban by driving on Friday. Organizers credited the success of Arab Spring for inspiring the public protest.

Saudi women's rights activists used Change.org as a central organization point for the demonstration, also hosting a petition asking Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to issue a statement on their behalf. The protest garnered support on Friday through Twitter with the hashtag #Women2Drive.

R! ep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) also showed support with a tweet Friday afternoon.
