postheadericon Gillibrand dedicates softball win to Giffords

Female legislators took on the Washington press corps Thursday night and won.

Many took to Twitter for congratulations following the second annual congressional women's softball game, where Congress beat members of the D.C. press 5-4.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) dedicated the win to her friend Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), and tweeted a picture from the field:

A great win tonight for the Congressional women's softball team & MVP @DWStweets! This one was for you, Gabby! http://twitpic.com/5fwl54

Many members wore ribbons in honor of Giffords at the game, including Gillibrand and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.). Giffords is recovering from an assination attempt on Jan. 8.

Wasserman Schultz, one of the team captains, made the winning run for the congressional team.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) tweeted:

Congressional women's team wins @CWSftball game benefiting young women w/ breast cancer! #CWSftball http://yfrog.com/klc0frzj

Proceeds from the event went to the Young Survival Coalition.
