Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) could resign in the next few days, according to Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.).

McCarthy on Tuesday said "we are hearing he might resign in a couple of days," according to the Associated Press.

Democratic leaders have called on Weiner to resign, and President Obama said Monday that he'd resign if he were Weiner.

The lawmaker admitted last week that he sent a lewd picture of himself through Twitter to a young woman in Washington state. Since then, a  stream of embarrassing photos of Weiner have surfaced, including pictures of him dressed only in a towel. He also had admitted to have had "inappropriate" correspondence over the! internet with at least six women over the last three years. 

On Monday, Weiner was allowed a two-week leave of absence from Congress, during which he reportedly will seek treatment. Weiner has said that he does not plan to resign his seat.
