postheadericon Oregon congressman celebrates Obama visit

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), who represents Portland, marked President Obama's visit Wednesday with two tweets about the occasion.

"With Obama in Portland, prouder than ever to be a Democrat," he said.

Obama appeared before a crowd of 11,000 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland on Wednesday night to stump for Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Kitzhaber.

The event, while not as big, reminded observers of May 2008, when an Obama campaign stop drew 75,000 ahead of the Democratic primary.

"Ducks or Beavers, doesn’t matter â€" Obama clearly loves Oregon," Blumenauer also tweeted, referring to the rivalry between the University of Oregon and Oregon State.

The president will hold a rally in Seattle on Thursday for Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), followed by a backyard discussion about women and the economy.

Later on Thursday, he'll be in San Francisco for a Democratic National Committee fundraiser and an event for state Attorney General candidate Kamala Harris. Friday, he'll travel to Los Angeles to appear with Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and later to Las Vegas for an event with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
