postheadericon Bush opens up about 'Decision Points'

Former President George W. Bush has posted a three-minute YouTube video describing his new book "Decision Points," dishing on many of the topics in the book that hits shelves on Nov. 9.

Wearing a dark sport coat and an open-necked shirt against a solid black background, Bush said he chose an "untraditional approach" to his memoirs, avoiding an exhaustive re-telling of every decision and instead focusing on highlights.

{mosads}The former president said the book begins with his thoughts on quitting drinking at age 40 and goes on to describe "a little about the experiences that forged my character â€" growing up in West Texas, being the son of a president, meeting my wife Laura, and raising our twin daughters."

Bush calls his decision to run for president in 2000 "one of the toughest decisions of my life," his Cabinet and senior staff choices, his policy on education reform and stem-cell research, and the "horror and heroism" of the Sept. 1! 1, 2001 terrorist attacks.

His decision to send troops into Iraq was "one of the hardest decisions any president can make," and how he felt while making the decision as well as the decision to boost troop levels. Bush also said he included a section on his 2004 re-election, Oval Office meetings with congressmen and world leaders, and his decisions on the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts and anti-AIDS funding.

He said he also writes about "failures" such as Social Security reform and immigration reform, and says he also includes his thoughts on his administration's response to Hurricane Katrina.

The book ends, Bush said, with his thoughts on the September 2008 financial bailout, "and my decision to set ideology aside to prevent an economic collapse."

"I write about what I got right, what I got wrong, and what I'd do differently if I had the chance," Bush says at the end.
