Republican figures and officials took to Twitter this week to react to the firing of Juan Williams, a news analyst, from his position at National Public Radio after he made a controversial statement about Muslims on Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor."

Sen. George LeMieux (R-Fla.) said:

Why are taxpayers funding NPR, an org. intolerant to divergent views? Worse still when we are borrowing 42 cents of every dollar!

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said:

Why should taxpayers subsidize NPR?

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said, linking to a statement:

"NPR's decision to fire Juan Williams makes me wish I was a listener so I could quit in protest."

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) said in two tweets:

I'll introduce legislation to end taxpayer funding for NPR & PBS.

House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said:
