postheadericon GOPers react to Juan Williams firing

Republican figures and officials took to Twitter this week to react to the firing of Juan Williams, a news analyst, from his position at National Public Radio after he made a controversial statement about Muslims on Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor."

Sen. George LeMieux (R-Fla.) said:

Why are taxpayers funding NPR, an org. intolerant to divergent views? Worse still when we are borrowing 42 cents of every dollar!

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said:

Why should taxpayers subsidize NPR?

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said, linking to a statement:

"NPR's decision to fire Juan Williams makes me wish I was a listener so I could quit in protest."

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) said in two tweets:

The incident! with Juan Williams reminds us the only free speech liberals s! upport i s the speech with which they agree.

I'll introduce legislation to end taxpayer funding for NPR & PBS.

House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said:

#YouCut will include terminating NPR's funding: firing Juan Williams undermines American freedom of speech

Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) said:

Demanding all NPR federal funding be taken away after firing of Juan Williams b/c of political correctness.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) had a long list of tweets and retweets on the topic:

NPR & LSM: you're shocked at public outrage over your censorship of Juan? This is what happens when our Constitution starts shaking her fist

Former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson said, linking to a statement:

Here's your wake-up call on the hazards of political correctness

So far, no Congressional Democrats appear to have used Twitter to weigh in on the controversy.
