postheadericon WH adviser says State of the Union will focus on jobs, energy, economic equality

Senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett previewed the president's State of the Union address Tuesday, saying the speech would be focused almost entirely on proposals to help jumpstart the American economy.

"It will be a bookend to the speech he gave in Kansas where he'll talk about what it takes to really have a sustained growth and a strong economy, the values that our country was based on," Jarrett said during an interview with MSNBC.

Jarrett said that the president would be focused on four central themes: manufacturing growth, reduced dependence on foreign oil, workforce training and "American values." The last of those points is expected to be a critique of growing income inequality in the country, and a call, again, for tax reform.
