Rick Santorum sees the Republican presidential race as something similar to the television show "Survivor," and he says that if he can just last until Mitt Romney is the only other candidate left in the field, the former Pennsylvania senator will do well.

"Our hope is that we come out here in a very strong position hopefully with the field a little bit narrowed, maybe a lot narrowed,” Santorum said Monday, according to The State newspaper. “I always felt like this campaign is like an episode of ‘Survivor.’ It’s just a matter of staying in there and doing well."

Santorum sounded optimistic about his chances against Romney.

"I’m confident that once the field narr! ows and we get a one-on-one shot at Gov. Romney, we’re going to do very, very well," Santorum added.

Santorum's comments came the morning before Jon Huntsman formally dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Romney. The campaign announced that he would drop out a day earlier.
