GOP Rep. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) warned Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry that their continued attacks on Mitt Romney’s business record would only aid President Obama in the 2012 race, reminding the GOP candidates that “making a profit is not an evil.”

"The winner of the 28-minute commercial is Barack Obama," Scott told Fox News, referring to an ad by Gingrich's camp claiming Romney grew wealthy as CEO of the private-equity and venture-capital firm Bain Capital by firing workers and shuttering American businesses.

The attacks on Romney's work at Bain from Gingrich and Perry have led to a backlash from conservatives concerned the Obama campaign will adopt their criticisms against Romney in the general election. Gingrich and Perry, on the other hand, have argued that their tough attacks will only prepare any eventual nominee for a challenging general-election fight against Obama.
