The Newsmax presidential debate â€" originally scheduled for the end of December, with reality television host Donald Trump tabbed as the moderator â€" will be rescheduled, according to the news organization. Trump dropped out of the event earlier this week after only Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum agreed to appear at the forum.

"With Donald Trump now deciding that he cannot moderate the debate due to his possible run as a third-party candidate, Newsmax is rescheduling the event for a later date," Steve Cox, editorial director at Newsmax, said in a statement.

"We spoke directly with all the major candidates and/or their campaigns over the past few weeks," he added. "They were extremely excited about connecting with Newsmax’s huge conservative audience, but the candidates were concerned with Trump’s involvement due to his stating that he was a potential third-party candidate."
