postheadericon VIDEOS: Downgrade blame game continues

The blame game between Democrats and Republicans over Standard and Poor's decision to strip the US of its AAA credit rating intensified on Monday.

Republicans called for President Obama to take responsibility for the downgrade. And a day after Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner confirmed he would stay in his post, many Republican lawmakers continued to press for his resignation. Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) said Geithner "should have never been confirmed in the first place."

Many on the left blamed! Tea Party members in Congress, claiming their stance in the debt-ceiling debate brought on the downgrade.

The Obama administration continued working to discredit the S&P decision. Geithner said S&P had "terrible judgment" and lacked budgetary and fiscal understanding.

President Obama said today that while there are fiscal problems, "we didn't need a rating agency to tell us we need a balanced long-term approach to deficit reduction."
