Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) wished former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) good luck via Twitter on Wednesday.

"Best of luck to @timpawlenty â€" a very good man who should be proud of his effort," McCain tweeted.

McCain's tweet comes a few days after Pawlenty dropped out of the 2012 presidential race. On Sunday, a day after the influential Republican Ames Straw Poll, the former Minnesota governor announced that he would not continue running in the Republican primary.

Pawlenty's announcement came after placing a disappointing third in the straw poll.

"We needed to get some lift to continue on and have a pathway forward," Pawlenty said Sunday on ABC's "This Week." "That didn't happen, so I'm announcing this morning, on your show, that I'm going to be en! ding my campaign for president."
