postheadericon Memo to lawmakers: Speak to voters as citizens

Policy issues aren’t the only ones that matter these days.

Like many Americans, I love to sit with my friends and discuss politics and the general state of our country. I have 20-plus years experience in consumer marketing and try to bring something a bit more insightful and refreshing into the political discussion.

On one particular occasion, I was speaking with a colleague about what we, the American people, think are our key issues as compared to those we hear prioritized for us by the media and our political leaders. Specific policy issues, political parties, and agendas shade everything we hear and read. 

As marketers, we asked ourselves, “If we completely depoliticized the conversation, would Americans give us the same standard list of issues?” So we took up the challenge and set out to find the answer. Relying on our experience in communications strategy and consumer behavior, we developed a unique two-stage citizen opinion! study that led us to two key insights.
