postheadericon Senators praise McConnell for shift on earmarks

Republican Sens. John Cornyn (Texas) and John McCain (Ariz.) tweeted in support of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday after he switched positions on the earmark ban proposed by Jim DeMint (R-S.C.).

McCain tweeted, "Important stmt on earmarks, I congratulate him! “@NTU: Fiscal conservatives - 1, big spenders - 0. Mitch (cont) http://tl.gd/7041v7."

"Kudos to Senator McConnell for supporting earmark moratorium," Cornyn tweeted.

The Senate GOP's Twitter feed later announced that Mike Johanns of Nebraska would also back the ban.

Note: Not one to miss out on the action â€" former Massachusetts governor and likely 2012 contender Mitt Romney (R) re-emphasized his own anti-earmark stance Monday afternoon.

"Support Senator @JimDeMint in his effort to curb federal spending,"he  tweeted. "Sign the “no earmark” petition today: http://mi.tt/NoEarmarks."
