Rep.-elect Tom Reed (R-N.Y.) was taken to a Washington-area hospital on Monday due to a blood clot in his lungs.

Reed, who turns 39 on Thursday, experienced shortness of breath overnight and was brought to the hospital, according to the Buffalo News.

According to the News, Reed's wife originally called for help while the couple was at the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel in Southwest Washington. New members are in the Capitol to attend orientation.

"I'm feeling good and looking forward to getting to work," Reed said in a statement.

The congressman-to-be was supposed to be sworn in Tuesday, but it is unclear if he will have to postpone the ceremony. The News reported he is expected to be released "in the next day or two! ."

Reed has no prior history with blood clots and is said to be resting in good condition.

Reed was elected to replace Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.), who resigned in March after he was accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with aides. He was voted in to fill the rest of Massa's term and to a new two-year stay in office.
