Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, according to his Twitter feed, arrived safely in India on Friday ahead of President Obama's visit.

"Landed in India to begin a 5-day trip with President Obama," Locke tweeted on Friday around 11 a.m. "Looking forward to some great talks with my Indian counterparts."

The president, meanwhile, departed at 10 a.m. from Andrews Air Force base. Air Force One is scheduled to stop in Ramstein, Germany, to refuel en route to Mumbai.

The trip, meant to strengthen the U.S.'s economic ties with Asia, will last through Nov. 14. Locke and Obama will also visit Indonesia, South Korea and Japan.
