postheadericon Capitol Police say unattended bag near Senate building was no threat

Capitol and D.C. police cordoned off a large park between Union Station and the Dirksen Senate Office Building on Tuesday morning, with one officer saying there had been a bomb threat.

A Senate Sergeant at Arms guard said a suspicious package had been found in the park, which was swarming with squad cars. Officers were barring anyone from entering the park at First Street and Massachusetts Avenue.

A spokeswoman for the Capitol Police said the suspicious item was an unattended duffel bag in the Senate Park. At around 10:10 a.m. police gave the all-clear signal indicating that nothing hazardous was found in the bag.
