House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) brushed past 19,100 followers Monday on Twitter, putting him about 250 away from eclipsing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) following.

"Thanks for staying informed! Please keep letting me know what's on your mind," Cantor told followers in a tweet noting the 19,000-mark.

The GOP, which tends to have a stronger presence on Twitter than do the Democrats, has continued to make strides in its following throughout the midterm election season.

Cantor, who tweets at @GOPWhip, now has about 4,300 more followers than GOP conference chair Mike Pence (R-Ind.). He has a ways to go, though, to catch House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), who has about 55,000 followers at @GOPLeader.

Pelosi's 19,363 followers, meanwhile, do give her a substantial lead over the rest of the House Democratic leadership: Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (Md.) has 3,586 followers and Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, who joined Twitter this September, has 1,214.
