postheadericon Pelosi, Specter wager on baseball playoff series

With the first pitch set to be thrown out Saturday night, two congressional heavyweights are placing a wager on baseball's National League Championship Series.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is betting that if her hometown San Francisco Giants win and go on to the World Series, Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) has to send her a shipment of Hershey's chocolates, which are made in southern Pennsylvania.

But if the favored Philadelphia Phillies win the series, Pelosi has to send Specter Ghiradelli chocolates from San Francisco.

"I am not sure which part of this bet will be sweeter, the Phillies in the World Series again, or enjoying Ghirardelli's chocolate while watching the Phillies in the World Series," Specter said in a statement. "I commend Speaker Pelosi for sticking with her team â€" but [Phillies manager] Charlie Manuel's lineup is just unstoppable and unhittable."

"San Francisco's Ghirardelli chocolate will be safe from Senator Specter: the Giants are going all the way," Pelosi responded. "I look forward to enjoying some Hershey's â€" prefe! rably, dark â€" chocolate while watching our beloved Giants in the World Series."
