postheadericon DNC doles out $5.5M to House, Senate, and state committees

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) dispatched almost $5.5 million to state and national campaign committees this month, bringing its total support for those committees to over $20 million this cycle.

The DNC transferred over $1.8 million to both the Democratic Congressional Committee (DCCC) and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), bringing its support to almost $6.7 million for both committees this cycle.

The DNC also sent a over $1.8 million to state parties, including half a million to Ohio, where there are competitive House, Senate and governor's races, $300,000 to Wisconsin, and a quarter million to the Minnesota and New Hampshire parties. The Oregon, Maine and South Carolina parties each got support over six figures.

The transfers are part of an extended effort by the DNC to extend its hefty bank account to other areas of the party. The DNC planned its "Vote 2010" effort months ago, which includes the $20 millio! n in support for the party, and millions more in paid advertisements, voter turnout efforts, and other services on behalf of Democrats.

The spending comes after the DNC's best fundraising month for the cycle, when the party took in over $16 million.

The party will need all the money it can get in the closing weeks of the campaign. Polls continue to show Democratic candidates at risk of losing their grasp on the House, and, possibly, the Senate.
