Democrats boasted their best fundraising month of this cycle, raising over $16 million in the month of September.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) will report over $16 millIon in revenues from last month when its files its required monthly report with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Oct. 20, according to DNC communications director Brad Woodhouse.

That figure bests any monthly haul Democrats have posted since the 2009-10 cycle, including the DNC's $16.2 million haul in August. (Woodhouse would not provide a final figure for September's fundraising, except to say that it would surpass the August number, which included a $5 million transfer.)

Democrats touted the September fundraising as an example of political momentum shifting in their direction with just over four weeks left to go before the election.

"Demonstrating the increased energy we've seen in the polls and among our grassroots activists, more than 80 ! percent of the more than $16 million we raised in September came from low dollar donors online and in the mail," Woodhouse said. "We've found that our supporters are now focused on the election, are responding to the president's message laying out the choice and understand the stakes."

The DNC has vowed to spend $50 million on their 2010 election efforts through its "Vote 2010" plan. The DNC has donated $20 million so far to the party's House and Senate campaign committees, and will look to pour cash into competitive campaigns over the next month to stave off Republican victories, and hold control of the House and Senate.

Democrats argue that the party isn't any longer at the depths they had faced earlier in the cycle, when it seemed as though they were at risk of losing the House, and maybe the Senate. President Obama has hit the campaign trail, and raised millions for the DNC and other campaigns.

"The truth is we've turned things around,"! Vice President Biden said last Thursday at a fundraiser. "Not enough, but we've turned it around."
