The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) held hearings recently on whether to approve a genetically engineered (GE) salmon for production and consumption. AquaBounty’s AquAdvantage salmon is an Atlantic salmon that grows almost twice as fast as farm-raised salmon because scientists added a growth hormone gene from a Chinook salmon and a promoter sequence from an ocean pout fish.
