Former President Bill Clinton will travel to southeast Michigan to campaign for veteran Rep. John Dingell (D).

Dingell's campaign announced Thursday that Clinton would attend a rally on Sunday at the University of Michigan in what could be the latest sign that a longtime Democratic lawmaker may be in trouble ahead of Nov. 2's elections.

Dingell is seeking another full, two-year term since first having been elected in 1955. But Republican challenger Rob Steele has run a competitive race, forcing Democrats to go on-air on behalf of Dingell in a campaign where they didn't expect to have to spend resources. 

Still, Democrats have denied being "nervous" about th! e campaign.

An independent poll in late September found Dingell leading Steele, 49-30 percent.
