postheadericon Cantor to host CNBC morning show

House GOP Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) is a prolific fundraiser, author and spokesman, and on Monday morning he will sport a new hat: TV show guest host.

Though the telegenic No. 2 ranking House Republican appears regularly on news programs to answer questions, Cantor is set to play the role of interviewer for two hours on CNBC's signature morning show "Squawk Box" from 7-9 a.m.

Former DNC Chairman Howard Dean and former Treasury Department administrator of the bank bailout program Neel Kashkari are among the guests listed on the rundown for Monday morning's show, according to Cantor spokesman Brad Dayspring.

Dayspring said that several weeks ago CNBC asked Cantor to fill in on Monday for host Carl Quintanilla, who is on assignment. Cantor, and full-time show hosts Becky Quick and Joe Kernan, will question guests on the economy, taxes, markets and auto sales from the CNBC studios in New Jersey.

The Virginian, who sits on the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, will revert to the role of guest for one segment during the show. Cantor and Dean will both answer questions on the midterm elections, taxes and the economy in the 8 a.m. hour.

Though Cantor has been a guest host on the morning business show before, he has only done so for 30-minute segments, Dayspring revealed.

"'Squawk Box' brings Wall Street to Main Street and is a 'must see' for everyone from the professional trader to the casual investor," according to the description on the show's website.
