postheadericon Santorum uses Roe v. Wade anniversary to hit opponents on abortion

Rick Santorum used the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade to criticize his opponents in the GOP presidential field and President Obama on their stances on abortion.

Santorum argues in an op-ed that he is the only candidate for president with the proper anti-abortion stance and calls Obama's position on abortion "extreme."

"President Obama's record of support for abortion is radical and extreme," Santorum writes in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal. "He supported federal funds for abortion through ObamaCare and told Catholic Charities that there was no room in the inn if they wanted to help women abused by sex traffickers and be pro-life at the same time."

The former Pennsylvania senator also writes tha! t he is the only one in the presidential field who is actually fighting for anti-abortion policies.

"My opponents whisper that they are pro-life, but I fight the battle in the trenches and will continue to do so until every innocent human life in this country is protected. I've dedicated my life as a husband, father and leader to this cause," Santorum continued.

"Newt Gingrich has pushed social issues to the back bench," Santorum added. "Do we want a president who talks on both sides or one who is unafraid to put social issues in the forefront where they belong?"

The op-ed comes a day after the 39th year anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling on the case. A day earlier President Obama defended the law's ruling.

“We must remember that this Supreme Court decision not only protects a woman’s health and reproductive freedom, but also affirms a broader principle: that government should not intrude on private family matters,” ! Obama wrote in a statement Sunday.
