As a member of the House Armed Services committee, I am fully aware of the myriad threats to our security and the global challenges for which we must continually prepare. I support a robust defense budget and the development and improvement of world-class weapons systems.
 
The president’s plan, which clearly maps out present and future challenges, rightly puts the emphasis on spending more effectively and wisely â€" not just spending more.
 
America’s defense budget cannot ceaselessly grow more rapidly than America’s economy. That’s a fiscal fact overlooked by those who oppose any and all cuts to the Pentagon’s budget, which exploded during the last decade.
