Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), the son of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, blasted newly minted GOP front-runner Newt Gingrich as "not even a conservative" in an editorial appearing Friday in the Des Moines Register.

"Gingrich is not from the tea party. He is not even a conservative," Paul writes in a blistering attack on Gingrich's credentials. "He is part of the Washington establishment I was sent to fight. He has been wrong on many of the major issues of the day."

Paul says that while he also objects to some of the positions and perspectives of Mitt Romney, the presumptive favorite for the Republican nomination, he believes that his "candidacy is well established."
