Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle commemorated Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Wednesday on Twitter, but also used their tweets to promote various policy agendas.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) used her tweet to stress the importance of taking care of veterans. “70 years later, we remember #PearlHarbor and those brave Americans who lost their lives. We must always continue to support our vets.”
Rep. Yvette Clark (D-N.Y.) tweeted the same message using the hashtag #vetsforjobs. “Today we remember the attack on Pearl Harbor, after which our citizens answered the call to service. #VetsforJobs.”

Many tweeted about the loss of life at the attack on Pearl Harbor 70 years ago, and went on to commend veterans and active members of the military.

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) tweeted: “Remembering #dayofinfamy, those who were lost and the nation that rallied in response http://ow.ly/7RTjx #PH70.”

And Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) wrote: “On 12/7, remembering the brave Americans who were lost at Pearl Harbor, and praying for those who serve in their tradition.”

“Today marks the 70th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor bombing," tweeted Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.). "Let us remember our veterans and pray for our troops today. God Bless America!”

And Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.) wrote: “On the 70th anniversary of #PearlHarbor, we remember the sacrifices made by the members of our armed forces to protect our country.”

The White House released a statement on Wednesday where the president praised the WWII Veterans and maintained the United States's commitment to supporting its troops and veterans.
