Newt Gingrich sent a letter Monday to an influential Iowa social conservative group affirming his commitment to marital fidelity and commitment to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act as president.

The letter, published on The Family Leader’s website, is Gingrich’s response to the group’s Marriage Vow, a pledge signed by several other Republican presidential candidates that Gingrich had previously declined to sign.

Gingrich pledged in the letter to "to uphold the institution of marriage through personal fidelity to my spouse and respect for the marital bonds of others."
