Back in early 2010, shortly after Scott Brown declared victory, I wrote an opinion piece for The Boston Globe touting Elizabeth Warren as the best Democratic nominee for 2012. I argued that her everywoman upbringing, combined with her unflappable support for the middle-class, would make her a formidable candidate.  
 
Now that Warren is in the race, she’s proving my predictions rightâ€"and then some. She’s in a dead heat in the polls and she’s clearly captured the imagination of the progressive grassroots. Intrade ranks her as having a 67 percent chance at victory.
 
In fact, she’s been so successful so early in the race that Republicans have resorted to increasingly desperate â€" and over-the-top -- attacks on her.
