Newt Gingrich on Wednesday challenged Mitt Romney to a one-on-one debate.

It was a part of his strategy to battle back against attack ads aired by a political action committee with ties to Romney.

The former speaker, during a campaign stop in New Hampshire, also said that he could "take the heat plenty well."

Romney suggested earlier in the day that his tough ads are simply preparing Gingrich for what would be a tough battle with President Obama.

“This is politics, and if you can't stand the heat in this little kitchen, wait until the Obama hell's kitchen turns up the heat,” Romney said Wednesday morning on Fox News.
