postheadericon Congress sends birthday tweets to the National Guard

Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle flooded Twitter with birthday greetings for the National Guard on Tuesday. Many lawmakers offered shout-outs to the men and women from their home state serving in the reserve military force.

Vice President Joe Biden personally tweeted: “Congratulations to @NationalGuard in honor of their 375th birthday today â€" thank you for your #service”

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) noted that the many years of service by the National Guard’s “citizen soldiers” go back to “the early Colonies!”

“Comforted to know you are Always Ready. Always There,” tweeted Rep. Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (R-Wash.), quoting the motto of the National Guard.

The military organization now known as the National Guard was declared into existence on December 13, 1636, according to the National Guard Bureau.
