House Speaker John Boehner co-opted the Democrat's #40dollars hashtag on Twitter Wednesday to bash the Senate's temporary extension of the payroll tax cut, the latest in a string of efforts by the GOP to subvert Democratic social media efforts.

"House GOP bill: typical family keeps #40dollars more EVERY paycheck next year. Senate Dems' bill: taxes go up in March," Boehner tweeted.

The White House asked supporters to share how the expiration of the payroll tax cut might affect their family budgets using the hashtag in a blog post earlier this week. The administration estimates that the average family would save around $40 per month if the tax cut was extended.
