The morning after financial markets plummeted saw more calls for the resignation of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Geithner has overseen policies that "have turned the economy into a disaster."

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) struck a pessimistic note on further deficit reduction, calling the outlook for the 'supercommittee' grim. She said she thinks it will be difficult for the congressional panel to reach a bipartisan agreement.

Donald Trump hit back at Standard & Poor's decision to downgrade the US credit rating, calling the rating agency "losers" and "publicity hungry."

And Moody's Chief Economist Mark Zandi weighed in! with predictions on what the Federal Reserve may do to boost the economy.
