A day after President Obama signed the debt-ceiling deal into law, pundits and lawmakers are looking back on the weeks of contentious debate.

Obama signed the legislation a day after the House approved the measure and shortly after it passed the Senate, less than 24 hours ahead of a Treasury Department deadline. Secretary Timothy Geithner warned that the U.S. would be unable to pay its bills on Aug. 3 if leaders did not raise the debt limit.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords's (D-Ariz.) chief of staff also spoke out Wednesday morning on the congresswoman's surprise return to Congress. Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) weighed in with his views on the debt-ceiling legislation, and Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) explained what exactly is in a "sugar-coated satan sandwich."
