postheadericon Cornyn fires back on Warren Buffett

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) tasked billionaire Warren Buffett with deficit-reduction on Monday.

Cornyn called on Buffett, one of the wealthiest men in the world, to take on the responsibility of the deficit following the investment guru's op-ed calling on Congress to increase taxes on the "super-rich."

Cornyn tweeted:

For tax raising advocates like Warren Buffett, I am sure Treasury would take a voluntary payment for deficit reduction

"Most [of the mega-rich] wouldn’t mind being told to pay more in taxes," Buffett wrote for the Sunday issue of the New York Times. "My friends and I have been coddled long enough by a billionaire-friendly Congress."

Cornyn fired off several tweets Monday morning responding to Buffett's ideas, which Buffett thinks should be tackled by the 12-member deficit-reduction "supercommittee."

The GOP argument is that burdening the wealthy with extra taxes will have a negative trickle-down effect on the lower and middle classes.
