postheadericon Weiner pans Romney healthcare speech

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) on Thursday panned likely GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's major speech on healthcare.

Romney's speech defended the healthcare plan he implemented as Massachusetts governor, which has come under fire from conservatives for being too similar to President Obama's national healthcare law.

Weiner, an outspoken liberal, said that by defending his own plan, he seemed to be agreeing with Obama. He tweeted after the speech:

I like Mitt. He seems to like the individual mandate. #MittvsMitt

So tell me Mitt, if this whol! e "let the states do it" means you oppose Medicare. #MittvsMitt

Romney had hope to use the speech as a way to erase what observers say is his biggest political liability while making the case for repealing Obama's law.

But after the speech, Democrats hoped to weaken Romney by accusing him of trying to have it both ways when it comes to his healthcare law.
