The top Republican on the Senate Select Intelligence Committee said he was somewhat surprised that the official account of the Navy SEALS raid on Osama bin Laden's compound has changed over the last week.

"You’d think that 24 hours after the fact, they’d be able to ferret things out a little more," Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) said according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday. "But I know that anytime you have a situation like this â€"it happens in a far-off land, and you’ve got 24 guys rushing into a compound, guns a-blazing, there’s going to be confusion."

Over the last week details from the White House about the raid which resulted in the killing of ! Osama bin Laden have continued to change. Originally, for example, the official account was that bin Laden was armed when he resisted capture. Then the Obama administration said bin Laden was actually unarmed but still resisting.

Additionally, a day after the raid, President Obama's top counterterrorism advisor, John Brennan, said bin Laden had used his wife as a human shield. Later that story was corrected that bin Laden had not used his wife as a human shield.

"Every day it seems like somebody is having to straighten out some fact," Chambliss added.
