Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) on Wednesday heaped blame on the "lamestream, leftist media" and GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich for the firestorm surrounding his comments on Medicare.

Palin, herself a potential presidential candidate, said that Gingrich's comment that Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) Medicare reform proposal is an example of "right-wing social engineering" was a product of a "gotcha" question by David Gregory, the host of NBC's "Meet the Press."

"It sounded pretty clear to me that Newt Gingrich's position, because he articulated this, was that Paul Ryan's plan would be social engineering and he didn't like it," Palin said on Fox News's "Hannity" program. "I believe that he made the apology because the media dinged him on it. Would he have made the apology otherwise? I don't know."
