President Obama will make a trip to Puerto Rico as he prepares for his reelection.

Obama's visit comes at the request of Puerto Rico Gov. Luis Fortuño, a Republican. Details of the trip have not yet been released.

"With his visit, President Obama fulfills his commitment he made during the presidential primaries of 2008, to return to Puerto Rico as president," Fortuño said in a statement, according to CNN.

Obama's visit will be the first official trip to the island commonwealth since 1962, when President Kennedy made the trip, CNN reported.

The trip could also provide Obama with a good opportunity to appeal to Latino voters, who largely supported him at the polls in 2008. The president recently made overtures to the voting bloc, giving a speech this month in Texas on the need for comprehensive immigration reform.
