postheadericon Obama to speak at AIPAC, capping week of focus on Mideast peace

President Obama will speak Sunday at the annual gathering of pro-Israel activists in Washington.

The White House announced that the president will appear at this weekend's policy conference organized by AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

The speech will cap off a week of intense focus by the administration on the U.S. relationship with Israel and the Middle East peace process.

Obama will deliver a major speech on U.S. policy in the Middle East and North Africa at the State Department on Thursday, and he'll host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Friday.

The president will also host King Abdullah of Jordan at the White House on Tuesday, and a reception for Jewish American Heritage Month that evening.

The events this week also come after the sudden resignation last week of Obama's special envoy to the region for the peace process, George Mitchell.
