The Iowa Republican Party canceled its 2011 Lincoln Dinner after erstwhile presidential candidate Donald Trump withdrew from the event.

The Iowa GOP said that Trump notified the state party on Thursday that he would not speak at the June 10 dinner, to which the party had sold so many tickets that they were forced to book a bigger venue.

“In Iowa, your word is your bond," said party chairman Matt Strawn. "We are disappointed that Mr. Trump has chosen not to honor his commitment to Iowa Republicans.”

Speculation had swirled over whether Trump, who declared last week that he wouldn't seek the Republican presidential nomination, would keep his commitment to the Iowa GOP. His aides had said his participation was to be determined.
