House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) gave these remarks at the dedication of a statue of former President Gerald Ford in the Capitol Rotunda on Tuesday.

As you can imagine, a lot of hard work goes into an event of this magnitude.  So thank you to all the folks here in the Capitol, back in Michigan, and especially the Ford Foundation, for your efforts. 

As my colleagues have noted, President Ford always put the best interests of the republic first. But you have to wonder whether that principle would hold were he to learn his statue would be unveiled by a Speaker of the House from Ohio.

Yes, Jerry Ford was a ‘Michigan man’ if there ever was one. Not a phony bone in his body. All heart, all class.
