postheadericon Biden to attend Emanuel inauguration

Vice President Joe Biden will attend former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's mayoral inauguration in Chicago on Monday.

A White House official confirmed to The Hill on Thursday that Biden would be attending the event.

Speculation that a high-profile member of the Obama administration (or perhaps President Obama himself) would be attending the event began after local media reported that security was tighter than one might expect for a mayoral inauguration. Chicago aldermen were being asked to give their social security numbers and those of their guests to security personnel.

Emanuel, who left the White House to run for mayor of Chicago, succeeds Mayor Richard M. Daley. He previously served as Obama's chief of staff and ! was succeeded by Daley's brother, Bill Daley.

Besides Emanuel's inauguration, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is scheduled to address the Economic Club of Chicago on Monday on his federal budget plan and proposals for reducing the federal deficit.
