postheadericon Ayotte, Ann Romney to headline women's event for Scott Brown

Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) and Ann Romney will headline a women's event for Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) later this month.

Amid a sustained ad campaign by the League of Women Voters (LWV) against Brown, the former first lady of Massachusetts and Ayotte will have Brown's back in a May 20 event.

Eric Fehrnstrom, a top adviser to both Brown and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), highlighted the event on his Twitter account.

LWV and Brown have been engaged in an extended spat in Massachusetts over an ad the women's group ran against Brown for his vote for a measure to! limit the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) ability to regulate greenhouse gases.

(The group aired a similar ad against Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill in Missouri.)

Brown's supporters have responded by demanding that LWV disclose its sources of funding for the ad. The group isn't legally obligated to do so until the end of this year, and has said it won't do so until that point.

So the event with Romney and Ayotte, a freshman senator from neighboring New Hampshire, serves the purpose of providing Brown reinforcement in typically-Democratic Massachusetts, where he's almost certain to face a tough reelection challenge next fall.

The Brown event also underscores the synergy between the centrist sen! ator's team and the former governor's people, especially as Ro! mney shi fts his dormant campaign into high gear.
