Much of the rage over the latest release of classified U.S. communications by the Wikileaks website has been directed at its founder, Julian Assange.  The editors of the British newspaper The Telegraph recently asked what I assume is a rhetorical question: “Is there a bigger self-aggrandising pillock in the world than Julian Assange?”  Such criticism is well-deserved.  However, while the press has been focusing its attention on Mr. Assange, we cannot lose sight of the root of the problem: poor procedures in the handling of classified information, and too broad access to, and dissemination of, sensitive material.
