The deal over extending the Bush tax cuts has quickly devolved into a story about class, partisan survival and deficits. What’s been glossed over is the positive economic effect these cuts will have.

It’s about time the White House step out of the 19th century â€" when the roots of progressivism took hold â€" and into the 21st. These extensions will create much-needed certainty, increase individual and business purchasing power, and allow market forces rather than “experts” in Washington to determine investment.
