postheadericon Solving the budget crisis

There is merit to the argument that ending the wars and suspending foreign aid will not solve the budget crisis overnight. However, consider just how much we spend on war and foreign aid â€" $110 billion a year for the war, the annual $2 billion-plus to Israel and Egypt, plus the other $20 or so billion in foreign aid we give the rest of the world.

And then there is the $140 billion a year it takes to support the 30-plus military bases scattered throughout Europe and Asia. Think that some $300 billion a year saved cannot start making a dent in the deficit? And we haven't even gotten into the costs for disabled veterans, military-industrial-complex spending and general contracting for the War on Terror.
