House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) stay connected on Twitter Friday as she attended the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony for Liu Xiaobo, a Chinese dissedent.

Americans and representatives of 46 other countries defied pressure from Beijing to boycott the event, which was held in the city hall of Oslo, Norway.

Xiaobo himself could not attend because he is currently in jail for his pro-democracy efforts.

"Xiaobo and other imprisoned Chinese human rights activists are not forgotten," Pelosi said on Twitter, linking to a photo (below). "[H]e deserves the support of freedom-loving people everywhere."

She had released a similar statement earlier in the day.

"As a courageous advocate of peaceful political change, Liu Xiaobo’s message of reform is an inspiration to the entire world," Pelosi said. "In the resolution passed this week, the House of Representatives called for his immediate and unconditional release from prison in China.”

To those who claim China "isn't really communist": why is Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo in prison for supporting DEMOCRACY?

Sen. George LeMieux (R-Fla.) said:

We live in a world where Russia jails its most successful entrepreneur and China jails its Nobel Peace Prize Winner. Freedom matters!
